Hey, Beauties! I hope you’ve all been enjoying the holiday season so far ♡
Around this time of year, I usually get really dry. Between the cold, brittle air and the on-again-off-again cold I’ve been battling, it won’t be long until my skin is perpetually parched and my lips flake off completely.
If you’re like me, you want something hydrating and gentle on your skin. If you’re also like me, your skin can be surprisingly sensitive.
Introducing my favorite DIY mask: the honey turmeric face mask. It’s gentle, hydrating, antibacterial, and feels great to put on. Honey is one of the oldest and most versatile ingredients in the world, with its usage dating back to the Stone Ages (over 8000 years ago!) Honey is a delicious humectant with a complex labyrinth of medicinal properties, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and even antipathogenic capabilities. If you want to learn more about honey, I’ve listed a few articles below that will feed your curiosity.
So, let’s get back to this special DIY honey turmeric face mask. Specifically, the second ingredient- turmeric. I love Turmeric, it is in some of my favorite dishes and teas. It is also one of my favorite ingredients to apply topically. I naturally have darkness around my lips and eyes, as well as dark marks that linger after every blemish. (Although popping pimples is never the answer, sometimes I can’t help it.) I like my naturally dark areas, as they give my face depth and dimension. Unfortunately, it also means I can look quite sunken in and exhausted some days, giving me quite the Cullen-esque finish. (Not the ‘Edward sparkling in the forest’ type of finish, more like Bella in Breaking Dawn.)

That’s why adding turmeric is a must for me. It evens out my skin tone, brightens my face, and works well with honey to nourish my skin. Turmeric also has several benefits, including antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can amplify the benefits of this mask. Below are a few interesting articles about turmeric:
Now let’s get to the best part: making and applying this mask. This is the recipe I use, but feel free to adjust the measurements as needed. Don’t forget to patch-test first! The last thing you want is to smear on this golden goodness and have an allergic reaction.
What you’ll need:
1 tbs (or 21 grams) of raw honey (I use locally sourced raw honey, but Manuka Honey also works well.)
1 tsp (or 3 grams) of turmeric powder
Steps:
- In a small bowl, mix together raw honey and turmeric powder. Once the mixture is well combined, use either a brush or your clean fingers and apply generously.
- Leave on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Use a mild cleanser to thoroughly wash off any remaining residue. Gently pat your face dry with a clean, soft cloth or towel.
Optional Step: I like to apply Jojoba oil to my face after to lock in the moisture.
Some things to consider:
- If you want to target hyperpigmentation, I recommend using yogurt or lemon in your mask recipe. Both are acidic and great for brightening and exfoliating your skin. If you have sensitive skin, opt for yogurt. The lactic acid in yogurt is gentler than the citric acid in lemons.
- If you want a thinner mask, add warm water until you get the desired consistency.
- Remember, consistency is key! While this mask will leave your skin feeling nice and rejuvenated, it’s important to regularly care for your skin. Make sure you are regularly incorporating a routine that cleanses, hydrates, and protects your skin.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this article and try the mask. If you do, please leave a comment and let me know! Also check out the articles below to learn more about each ingredient.
Until next time!
