Chinese pop artist Lexie Liu has been making waves ever since the release of her hit song “Manta” in 2019. Since then, the visionary has been on an upward trajectory, creating a cyber-punk aesthetic we all want to be a part of. Her latest single “Pop Girl” is her at her very best. Gorgeous, confident, and always genuine, the song is yet another example of how multitalented she is. Every project has elevated her, leading her into a sound that enhances her image and allows her to shine.
Her first EP 2030, released in 2018, has a sound that is much different from her newer projects. After mingling with the label 88rising, the album delivered the relaxed, moody, and confident tracks reminiscent of other artists on the roster. Personally, I love “Nada” with “Mulan” as a close second.
She followed it up with Meta Ego in 2019 featuring velvety melodies on top of vibe-heavy beats. A solid album from top to bottom with “Holy” being my favorite song. It wasn’t until the Gone Gold album which is a prelude to the electro-pop world that was yet to come. The self-produced and self-written album shifted from heavy urban influences into subtle pop territory. Proving yet again there isn’t anything she can’t do.
The Happy Star’. The 12-track project remains one of the albums on heavy rotation for me. Featuring tracks in Mandarin, English, and Spanish, this upbeat, badass project is everything we’ve ever needed and more. This project also has several cool music videos showing her comfort in taking risks and trusting her vision. And she looks damn good doing it. Her music style is a breath of fresh air. So are the outfits she wears.
Let’s just say this 98-liner can do no wrong and has continued to impress us in and out of the studio. The muse of fashion house MiuMiu, how can you not be enamored with this woman? She is the definition of cool and a reminder to stay true to yourself and the rest will follow.
Check out her new song ‘Pop Girl’. Fair warning, it will be on repeat.
