New Girls Generation… Yes!

There has been buzz around the possibility of K-pop legends Girls Generation releasing new music this year. On August 31st, members Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, and Yuri formed a new subunit, HRS, and released ‘Skibidi’. Girls Generation released their last song, ‘Forever 1,’ in 2022, making this release not only refreshing but exciting.

First off, the girls slayed, which is no surprise. The girls’ easygoing styling in the music video complements the cool choreography. Nothing about the music video is over the top, and I love that for them. There is no doubt they are natural beauties, but something about the baggy denim and white tops makes for an effortless combination not commonly seen in SM’s music videos.

‘Skibidi’ is a dance track with a bit of unexpected edge. The song has a house music vibe with a touch of hip-hop. The song was written by K-pop heavy hitter Kenzie, who is no stranger to SM artists. She is responsible for songs like ‘Monster’ and ‘Obsession’ by EXO, as well as ’90’s Love’ by NCT U, and ‘Hot Sauce’ by NCT Dream, just to name a few. An easy song to add to my playlist, and difficult to resist the urge to dance when it plays. The new subunit, HRS, also released ‘Lowkey in Love’. Anything new from SNSD excites fans, myself included. Maybe this is a sign that eventually we’ll get the girls to reunite for a full project.
